Hello everybody!
I'm Chiara Grossi and I teach English at 'Balbo' High School. I would like to take advantage of this blog to share some remarkable pieces of writing written by some students of mine.
This week's assignment asked them to write about their greatest passion in the form of an article. Here below one of the most appreciated ones, I hope you'll enjoy it!!

The Art of
Cinema
My passion
for cinema started when I was around 10 years old, thanks to my mother who
studied History of Cinema at university, in particular she specialized in film
criticism. So, when I was young, we used to watch at least one movie a day at
home. I remember watching the Harry Potter saga many times and Star Wars
Trilogy.
Then I grew
up and my interest in cinema grew as well, so I started trying to understand the
movies better. After a movie I started to do some research about cinematique
techniques such as flash forward, perspective, shot, room etc…
In
particular I have learnt the importance of the meaning of some films connected
to the figure of the director. In fact, the role of the film maker is not only
about the storyline or the scenography of the movie, but in the most significant
films the director is a figure comparable to a philosopher because he puts
inside his creation a message that reaches you personally, much more than a
book. Pasolini, for example, has always tried to explain his audience the true
human nature through images of vilence, destruction and death.
I get
fascinated by the art of cinema and I always try to learn new features. I have
recently started to watch movies in their original language, because it is the
best way to appreciate them wholly. When the dialogues are too difficult to
follow, I sometimes rely on subtitles.
